OnionChat031315Spring is here! And what better way for foodies and beer lovers to celebrate the onset of warmer weather and March Madness than a Twitter party?

Join the National Onion Association’s @Onionista and author @JohnSchlimm to chat about springtime, March Madness, and the food and drink pairings that complement the fun of the season — onions and beer — at #OnionChat this Thursday, March 19th at 8pm ET!

Sliders+Onionista2Get ready to share your favorite Spring or March Madness recipes, beers and beer cocktails with the onion and beer experts! Note: This party is intended for our Twitter friends of legal drinking age only. RSVP to join the chat and be entered to win one of four prizes including John’s book, The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Happy Hour — which features more than 325 recipes and beer cocktails and a Sweet n’ Savory Onion set from the National Onion Association (NOA). (Open only to residents of U.S. Click here for official rules.)

The National Onion Association is a resource for everyone who has ever encountered an onion. At the NOA website, you’ll find recipes and tips on how to serve the onion for any meal, in any season, and at any gathering. You’ll also find dietary information, and tips on how to best slice, dice, store and handle this humble vegetable. The NOA has represented growers, shippers, brokers, and commercial representatives of the U.S. onion industry for more than 100 years.

BeerBookJohn’s new cookbook, The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Happy Hour: Over 325 Recipes for Your Favorite Bar Snacks & Beer Cocktails was released in August 2014. His now classic and voluminous ode to beer and food, The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Cookbook: More Than 400 Recipes That All Use Beer, was released in 2008.  John is a Harvard-trained educator, activist, artist, businessman, and award-winning author of sixteen books on cooking/entertaining, activism, history, how-to, and fiction. For many of us, July means fireworks, backyard family time, and…grilling! And what better way to celebrate National Grilling Month than with a special #OnionChat: Grilling Edition!

Come meet John and learn about his new book, get great recipes and grilling tips, and learn more about onions-how to grill them and add them to summer recipes to make your backyard get-together even tastier! Those who join the chat will be entered to win one of 5 prize packs that each include one TheGrillion and one copy of Grilling Vegan Style! (Open to residents of U.S. and Canada. Click here for official rules.)

The National Onion Association represents onion growers, shippers and others in the U.S. onion industry. The NOA is also an incredible resource for anyone who has ever encountered an onion! One visit to their website and you’ll find recipes on how to serve onions for any meal, in any season and at any gathering. You’ll also find information on handling and storing onions, as well as important dietary information and research, lesson plans for teachers, and answers to (eye)burning questions such as “why do your eyes water when you cut an onion?” For a small taste of what’s to come during Thursday’s chat, visit the NOA’s Ten Tips for Perfectly Grilled Onions!

John Schlimm is the award-winning author of twelve books on cooking/entertaining, history, how-to, and fiction. His latest work is Grilling Vegan Style: 125 Fired-Up Recipes to Turn Every Bite into a Backyard BBQ.  A comprehensive vegan grilling handbook and cookbook, Grilling Vegan Style serves up backyard cooking and entertaining like never before, once more proving John’s point that eating vegan style does not have to be boring or tasteless.

In the fall of 2011, John’s first vegan cookbook, The Tipsy Vegan: 75 Boozy Recipes to Turn Every Bite into Happy Hour, was released to critical acclaim.  In this hip cookbook, John smashes through vegan stereotypes and breaks new ground once again by showcasing a collection of plant-based recipes using favorites from the bar circuit–wine, beer, vodka, etc.–as key ingredients.
